Proposition 60/90 (CA) Info

Proposition 60 was passed by the California Legislature as a measure that would allow homeowners 55 years of age or older to transfer their property tax rate when buying a home of equal or lesser value within their county of residence. This measure could be used only once during the lifetime of an individual or couple. Although the state legislature enacted the proposition into law, each county had to adopt an ordinance allowing the property tax transfer with the respective county.

Proposition 90 is a similar measure, but was intended to allow individuals or couples 55 years or older to transfer property tax rates between counties. Each county had to adopt a local ordinance to allow the property tax transfer. Here is the latest information on the subject of Proposition 90 from the California Association of Realtors (CAR) website.

Please check with your local county Assessor to verify the current status of Propositions 60 and 90.
